The following are "Le Petit Candidats" or "Little Candidates who got a very small percentage of the 1st round votes.

In the end, Emmanuel Macron won and became president. The election did have some surprises. Neither Macron or the other 2nd round candidate, Marine Le Pen, were members of the standard political parties. Le Pen making it to the 2nd round was particularly shocking because it showed the increase in nationalism worldwide. Marine Le Pen was often called France's Trump.
