Step 1

Step 1 is to explore the big idea. I looked at how social trends have affected IBD awareness and life for those with IBD. My ideas are below

  • Ally’s Law

  • Gets patients to bathrooms fast

  • “I get stomach aches too”

  • Diminishes

  • Shows trying

  • Misunderstanding it

  • Trying to help

  • Could be detrimental

  • Can be upsetting

  • Shows people care

  • Connecting

  • Empowering

  • Sharing tips and tricks

  • Placebo symptoms

  • IBD vs IBS

  • Misunderstanding

  • Diminishes

  • Mix up could be very bad

Step 2

Step 2 is to make connections. For this I sent out a survey and got at least 30 responses. Attached is a link to my spreadsheet of the responses.

Step 3

Step 3 is to build empathy for people affected by your issue. I choose to do the day in the life option, but I had to edit it a little. As someone who has IBD I choose to make a list of problems I face now that I didn't face before I was diagnosed.

  • Having to ask to go to the bathroom

  • Strict deadlines tough with rough nights and fatigue

  • Mornings are hard

  • Multiple pressures for make-up work

  • Rush on make-up work

  • Plan trips based on bathrooms

  • Plan for bathroom breaks

Step 4

Step 4 is to develop a solution from a point of view. I choose to develop solutions from the point of view of a community leader.

  • Open dialogue

  • Create PSAs

  • Create awareness campaigns

  • Create posters

Step 5

For step 5 I created a demonstration of a possible awareness poster.
