For Step 4 of the Senior First aid badge, I interviewed my neighbor police officer about drug overdose and alcohol poisoning. I asked him about the signs, what to do, how to distinguish, what he had seen, among other things. He told me about the signs and they are the signs you generally associate with overdoses and being drunk. For what to do, besides calling 911, was to roll them on their side so they don't choke on their vomit, make sure the area is safe, and look around them to see if you can tell what it is. He talked about a drug that he hopes will be available to everyone that reverses drug overdoses and does no harm if it is alcohol. One of the few dangers of this drug is people generally come back violent because they are angry you stopped their high. He said that their really isn't any way to tell besides if they have needles or bottles around them. On what he had seen, he said he had seen people dead because of heroin or other drugs. He also talked about how he had seen people come back with that reversal drug swinging. It was a very interesting and educational visit with my neighbor.
