Step One of the Website Designer Badge was to choose a topic for your blog. I choose to talk about a past time or hobby, which I consider Girl Scouts to be. I choose to write about my work to earn badges (and other awards) as a Senior Girl Scout.
For the second step of the Website Designer badge I choose to research website hosting sites. I focused my research on 11 specific sites.
Those sites were:
1) blog.com
2) blogger.com
3) medium.com
4) penzu.com
5) squarespace.com
6) svbtle.com
7) tumblr.com
8) webs.com
9) weebly.com
10) wix.com
11) wordpress.com
To start, I focused on price. Since squarespace costs money, I knocked that one out of the running. Also, after some research, I learned you don't get much for free on penzu. This made me knock this one out. Weebly had a free option, but still collected information for billing, causing me to knock them out. I also knocked out tumblr (due to its social media nature), blogger (due to past use and dislike), and medium (due to its stand alone nature). This shortened my list to the following:
1) blog.com
6) svbtle.com
8) webs.com
10) wix.com
11) wordpress.com
I then started looking at the sites individually. I disliked the look of wordpress, so I knocked it out of the running. The same thing happened with blog.com. My final three were:
6) svbtle.com
8) webs.com
10) wix.com
I knocked svbtle out because it was too clean and crisp for me. This lead to a battle between webs and wix. I really liked both of them very much. I ended up deciding this one, wix, better suited my needs and goals.
These completed my first 2 steps for the Website Designer badge, more to come soon.
